Sylvain Luc

Sylvain Luc was born in 1965 in Bayonne. At the age of four, he began playing guitar, then violin, then studied cello for ten years at the Bayonne Conservatory.
In 1988, he moved to Paris, where he worked as an arranger, composer and accompanist of popular music artists (Catherine Lara, Michel Jonazs, Al Jarreau…) while still continuing jazz as a bassist in the Richard Galliano Trio and guitarist with Eric Le Lann.
As his contacts multiplied, Luc worked with some of the greatest musicians on the scene, including Wynton Marsalis, Steve Gadd, Lokua Kanza, Michel Legrand, Elvin Jones, Dee Dee Brigewater, Manu Katché, Stéphane Belmondo, Michel Portal, Bobby Thomas Jr., Andy Sheppard, Alain Caron, Bernard Lubat, Steve Lukather, Keyvan Chémirani, Victor Bailey, Larry Coyrell, Al Di Meola, Didier Lockwood, John Mc Laughlin, Billy Cobham, Richard Bona...
In 1993, Luc became the ambassador for Godin guitars throughout the world. He recorded in France and overseas.
His first album, “Piaia,” was released in 1993, followed the year after by “Petit Déjà,” a duet with his long-time friend Louis WINSBERG.
“Ameskeri”, an understated duet with Stéphane Belmondo, came out in 1999.
In 2000, he recorded a duet album with Biréli Lagrène that rapidly sold more than 70,000 copies. Its 2009 sequel “Summertime” is heading for the same record sales.
With André Ceccarelli and Jean-Marc Jafet, Luc launched the famous Trio Sud band and recorded their first album in 2000. In 2003, for their album “Sylvain Luc Trio Sud,” they were awarded the “Victoire de la Musique” award for best jazz group. A third album, “Young and Fine,” was released in 2008. They celebrate their 10th birthday in 2010.
In 2000, Luc also recorded “Nahia” with his brothers Gérard et Serge and “Piaia Naia” with the talented Francis Lassus.
In 2003, ten years after “Piaia”, Sylvain recorded a second solo album, “Ambre,” followed by solo tours in Europe and South America.
Following the release of his album “Joko” in 2006, Luc toured in France and Europe in 2006 and 2007 with renowned musicians Michel Portal, Eric Longsworth, Olivier Ker Ourio, Jacky Terrasson and Pascal Rey.
In January 2007, he was invited to represent France, along with Didier Lockwood, Richard Galliano and Olivier Ker Ourio at the IAEJ conference in New-York. Following was a two-month series of solo concerts in the USA and Canada in association with the International Guitar Night Festival.
In 2008, Luc won the “Django d’Or” music award for his achievements and played in the “String Quartet” band with Didier Lockwood, Victor Bailey and Billy Cobham.
2009 was a busy year for Sylvain. He began by a tour with Richard Bona and Steve Gadd around Europe, carried on with a new project "Nomad’s Land", with Didier Lockwood, Ira Coleman, Bijan and Keyvan Chémirani... and still solo concerts, in duet with Biréli Lagrène, Médéric Collignon, Olivier Ker Ourio, Philip Catherine and in trio with Trio Sud. Recently, Sylvain was invited by Michel Legrand to play at his 50-year jubilee concert at the Salle Pleyel in Paris. He recorded a new album with Bireli, "Summertime", and a new album solo "Standards", unanimously acclaimed by the press..
